I am working on a 76 cj and cant find a mechanical fuel pump.I was told by autozone that chrysler never sold the patent to the aftermarket companies so none of them carry one.I have a buddy who has a 78CJ5 and he cant find one either.Anybody know where I can get one?
Did you do a search on the 'net? Maybe you could find one NOS on Ebay. If it's that hard to find though, maybe you should switch to an aftermarket electric, like those little square universal ones. -TD
Order one online from Quadratec. They have a Jeep Essentials catalogue that you could basically build a new vintage Jeep out of. Just do a google search for Jeep essentials or Quadratec.

If that was true, 1976 + 17 years = 1994, patent is up. Without seeing it, I am almost willing to bet you could use a Ford or GM fuel pump in its place. At the worse, you would just have to swap over the lever. I use to work at a Jeep dealer in the 80s and I know many parts were Ford and GM sourced, including engine parts.
As an example, GM's wire division (names escapes me) use to make the wiring harness for XJs, CJs, and Wranglers? The funniest thing was when the earlier Cherokees had a defective wiring harness, new harnesses were sent out for the recall. If you installed the new harness, which was miswired, as soon as you turned the key the vehicle would set itself on fire. Oops! GM quality
Chrysler/Jeep very rarely made its own small parts on the older Jeep vehicles. You can take a rear drum cyl on a CJ and its exactly the same thing as on a BII. I have bought aftermarket brake cyl. for a BII that came with the AMC part # on them (323 ####).
I would recommend a Jeep web site to help you, not a Ford website. But, if that does not work, then post a picture of the pump, especially on the block side, and I will find something that works for you.
