Down at the Supernats and saw some Tilt Beds....How many of you have tilt beds and do they sell a kit or did you fab yourself??...If so how hard to install or Fab? If fabbed yourself please give some detail....Just thinking about ideas. Not really sure I am gonna do it....
did a tilt bed a few trucks back, used the rear pivot assembly from a front axle. Punch 3 rivets out and the whole thing comes out as a unit. I have some pictures but they are old and I'll see if I can scan them in and get them into my gallery. Check pickupslimited.com for a couple of good pics from K'ville
Fatfenders, I can't quite picture what you're talking about( I think the rectal cranial inversion is acting up today)
I know there are several manufacturers of bolt on tilt units. A web search should turn up several. I've seen them listed in the Northern Tools catalog. You might try talking to one of your local hydraulic shops or truck equipment company.
Let me see if I can 'splain it more better. What I used is the rear hanger/pivot assembly from an I-beam front axle. It's where the rear of the spring attaches to the frame. Drill out the 3 rivets and you will have a real nicely made pivoting assembly that the spring used to hook to. Use a pair of these to mount the rear of the bed to the frame and you will have a tilt assembly with a grease fitting and you will never wear it out! I used a hydraulic ram from a small dump trailer to raise it up and down. Hope that's clearer!
Doh! I got it now. What a great idea! And to top it off the bracketry would look period correct.
Was the cylinder manually operated, pump mounted on engine, or electric?
