power module question

94 F-150 supercab 4X4
I recently purchased and installed a power module from hypertech.I havent installed the 160 degree thermostat yet. I don't really notice much difference in power ecxept for a little bit of pinging when hard on the throttle. I timed my truck from 0-60 before and after I installed the chip-no difference. I checked the timing and it was the same. I am going to take it out and clean the connections one more time.Is there anything else to check to make sure its working properly?
Does everone else notice a big difference with there chip?

MY TRUCK DOESNT HAVE A COMPUTER THAT CAN BE MODIFIED SO I CANT RUN A POWER MODULE, BUT THERE MAY BE ONE POSSIBLE PROBLEM TO LOOK INTO , MAY BE THE MODULE IS DEFFECTIVE.

I also have a Hypertech Powr module in a 93 F-150 with a 302. Mine is a early version, (1994?) and It is required to run at least 91 octane. Does yours require this?

Evan my directions said to run at least 92 octane and recomends 93 octane which I dont believe is available, at least in my erea.With gas prices this doesnt make me happy at the moment.
Basically what Im interestd in knowing is if there is anything I can check to see if it is working.

to get the full effect, you will have to install the 160 degree stat, use 92 gas and. the chip you have has only one draw back, you only notice gains at WOT

I have a Jet Chip in my 96 F-150 (302) and noticed quite a difference in performance. Are you sure Hypertech recommends a 160 degree thermostat? That sounds too cool to me. The factory stat is a 195 and Jet recommends a 180 which is what I'm using. I have read some posts here that say stay away from the lower temp thermostats as they will make the engine run rich, but was informed that that is untrue as the Oxygen sensor will detect and compensate for the rich condition. . . at least with the newer ECU's. Jet also recommends premium fuel but I have been able to run midgrade for daily driving because of my higher altitude (6,000'). I still have to run premium when towing my boat. Also according to Jet . . . if the connections to the ECU are not good the check engine light will often come on.

The 160 degree stat will make the computer think that the block is still cold, and the EEC-IV will default to a "warm-up" mode causing injectors to dump more fuel. It will continue to attempt to warm up until the coolant sensor reaches~192 degrees. The emissions system compensates for the richer mixture by opening the AIR valve farther going into the first (or only) cat. The chip uses this extra gas, and the higher octane by advancing the timing at points above 60% throttle (so you retain a little mielage). It basicly just tricks the EEC-IV into using that power that really is available in a stock Ford engine. Another side effect to watch is that your oil will become contaminated easier and earlier with a 160 degree stat because your engine spends so much time below the 180 degree-plus boil off point at which excess gas and water vaporize from the oil.
