Will the engine out of a ford lightining fit in a ford ranger and even if it did would i have to have a whole new computer system??? It's a 2000 Ford Lightining i believe and my truck is a 2004 ford Ranger with the 3.0 FFV V6 Thanks all comments
Anything can be put into anything, but no its not a good fit and you will need all the electronics/wiring from the Lightning. Also your transmission will not bolt up and the rearend will have a tuff time with the 350-375 horse (or whatever it is) lightning power.

The 4.6L is a REAL TOUGH fit, so you can bet that the 5.4L is next to impossible. If you have SVT type money, go for it. If you have that kind of money....can I have some?
You are welcome for allowing me to "bum" for once.
Anything can be made to fit if you have enough time, patience, and cubic dollars...not to mention a really big shoehorn! I've read about one guy who crammed a 460 into a Ranger, but he had to fabricate EVERYTHING, cutting into the firewall, removing the inner fender panels, cutting and refabricating the frame rails, etc. Is it really worth all that hassle? You'd have something unusual, that's for sure! -TD
Well, they're both real big, thats for sure, and that 4.6 wouldnt fit worth a dang. Yeah, it would be alot of cutting, thats for sure. If i had the money, and the time, i'd do it though. That 4.6 is like 4 times the size of the 302 i have sitting on my engine stand right now.
Peter94, Just wondering. Were you refering to the "physical" size of the engine when you said. " That 4.6 is like 4 times the size of the 302 i have sitting on my engine stand right now." A liter is approx. 61 cu.in. Sooooo 4.6L X 61 = approx. 280 cu. in. I believe. Soooo that would make the 4.6L SMALLER than the 302 cu.in. Correct?
Only Ford could make an engine a foot wider and 9" taller with 20 less Cubic inches.. But I will say as the previous (untill last week) owner of a 96 cobra mustang, that motor produces a lot more power then the old 302.

I mean in physical appearance. It is really, wide, and in a ranger it would be a tough one, hope you have a plasma cutter, big welder and a large hammer, also alot of metal, time, and money. THen yes, you would need the computer and all the harness stuff for the lighning engine, also most likely have to fabricate your own throttle/crusie cables, then the linkages to the tranny would probably have to be fabbed. If you dont have a day job, but you have alot of money, then it could be possible, otherwise, it will take an extreemly long amount of time to do this, especially alone. Think of this, when you swap in a 302/351 into a ranger, you have to trim out a part of the heater box to clear the valve cover, now if you had to go another foot beyond this, were talking relocating all the heater stuff, then on the other side, the steering linkage, maybe even master cylinder and stuff like that.
