standard headlight element blown only?

This evening my headlights didn't work. Thought my high beems worked. What could cause only the standard lights being blown? Is there any posssible cause for this?

the bulb might be bad. I think it is possible to blow one part of the bulb and not the other. I would change one and see if that works. GL

Dont know what you're driving, but take a look at the fuse page in your owners manual & see if theres a fuse for the low beams only.

There are seperate feeds to the high/low beams. Could be the switch or wiring. What year truck is it?

I dont have a wiring diagram for a 95, but this is probably wired from the multi/dimmer switch to a low beam fuse then to the headlights.

Does your owners manual show a low beam fuse? Have you checked it?

Could also be a bad multi/dimmer switch. Simple enough to check that with an ohm meter.

I don't know the explorers, but there is usely two circuits, one for the high and one for the low beam lights. Its a safety issue, so they both don't go out if there is a problem.

last week the driver side low beam went out, i checked fuse #4 & #8 also switched bulb from pass. side to driver side. it worked on pass side only..........
i took it to a mech. he said i had a short, he said he fixed the problem. it worked for a few days. last night i lost both low beams.
today i checked fuses and they were good. i also noticed that the Mech. just ran a
hot wire from pass. side to driver side. (that was the fix) now both low beams don't work plus my fog light dont work also............i am so getting my money back, i could havd done that and i would haved install an inline fuse....
wher might i find the dimmer switch...... thanks

If someone started "tweeking" the wiring you could have anything wrong. You need to get a wiring diagram for it and trace through it. There are relays, switches, etc in the circuit. I beleive the fog lamps are a different circuit then the headlights so there may be additional troubles there. The dimmer switch is on the turn signal "stock", again you need to talk to someone who knows explorers and has a diagram for it. They are pretty much the same, but there can be differences.

Yep, like Dave sez, nows the time to get your hands on a GOOD set of wiring diagrams. Enter the info for your EX at autozone.com for an online wiring diagram.
