Well,I got em.The GT40 blues that is.Our dealership just took delivery of two of them.A silver one and a red one. So,naturally I had to hop in one.Well,I stand 6ft 4in.And the car seems to be made for a guy no taller than 5ft 6in!Gee,Ford must have used the same designer that redid the T-Bird.I cant fit into one of those either.I know one thing,I am planning and saving for the new Shelby Mustang that will be coming out in 2007,and if that same designer screws up my Mustang I am going to put a bounty on his head!J/K!But if they do screw up the headroom on the Mustang,I will be modifying the seat! But for now I am trying to figure out how I can get my hands on one of those supercharged 5.4L engines to drop in my BroncoII!MAN,What a street rod that would be!
Oh yeah, one other thing. Our sales manager told me that these GT40`s will probably sell for around a quarter mil1ion each! So,I dont think I will be bidding on one anytime soon!
Well, you dang ole' tall Texan. Take yer boots off and maybe that'll help. As far as current designers doing this to foil your dreams, you better blame the first designers. As I understand things, this is a pretty accurate replica of the original. Dan Gurney was one of the taller GT-40 drivers, but on the whole drivers were smaller in those days. I understand your desire. I was a wash boy at the local Lincoln-Mercury dealership and walked in one day to find two Panteras on the showroom floor. Instant drooling and bug eyes!
Maybe you could get a Dan Gurney style roof bubble installed, or get an operation! You got a foot on me, if you get six inches removed from your legs, I'll take it! -TD
...I know one thing,I am planning and saving for the new Shelby Mustang that will be coming out in 2007,...
Get in line now. Our dealership currently has 12 orders for them, and the car's 2 years away. And I don't mean we've got 12 orders for stock vehicles, I mean we have TWELVE SOLD ORDERS, people that have said I'll take one when they come in, regardless of price. And 13 sold 2006 Mustang orders. This is nuts...
Yeah...it's nuts...but it's a heckuva car!! They're actually a bit taller than the original, and some other dimensional differences, but Ford designers did a top-notch job in bring the GT into this century. BTW...the current car is named simply "Ford GT". The "GT40" moniker refers to the 'sixties versions, although I've heard some Ford execs, and others that were "hands on" with the original program, say that the "40" was never officially part of the original's name either. It was a label placed on the car by the British (media, I think), when the car was being developed over there.
Spot on cpe41...
The 40 that British refers to the originals height in inches.
The new one is 44" inches, GT44 doesn't quite have the same ring...
I do believe that GT40 was used by Ford after the media coined it though
The one I got to ride in, I was close to the roof, and I am 6'1", but that doesn't bother me, if it did, I don't know why I would still have my '63 mini
I may be wrong, but isn't the new Ford GT40 actually called the Ford GT? I guess it doesn't matter either way; I can't afford either one. I always did like Carroll Shellby's projects from the Cobra to the Daytona Coupe to the GT40.

It's actually all legal BS!!! It was supposed to be GT-40 and Ford has used the moniker on 5.0 parts (GT-40 intake etc) but someone, somewhere owns the GT-40 name and Ford wouldn't pay up.
