Rear shock mounts

I'm tired of the rear shock mounts being troublesome. I've bent the one on the driver side twice on rocks. I want to figure out a way to move the mounting point higher up. Maybe at the back of the axel housing or on top. Just not below.
Can anyone tell me if this will cause problems with geometry?
Does anybody have any suggestions/actual solutions that have worked?

Thanks..

I have the same problem. I've just raised the rear by 2 inches with a taller rubber stop bump block. A quick look underneath made me think it should be a snap to loosen the U bolts holding the rear shock mount and rotate it up to "flatten" the profile under the axle. It might be possible to gain a little more than an inch of clearance with the rotation and cutting off the excess thread.

I'm due for new shocks so will likely do it at the same time. You might be able to do it with the stock suspension with the stock shocks as well.

I just re-read your comment and re-thought this. It might actually be possible to switch the mount upsidedown, maintaining the exact same position of the bottom end of the shock but now only the U-bolt would run under the axle instead of the bracket. The bracket would be on top and behind the axle. Or is that what you were thinking?

Hmmm...I'm off to get my wrench...

Close, but no.

Geoquest,
The dual exhaust (which was probably a mistake because of this) is too close to the shock as it bends around the fuel tank. I need to move the lower shock mount forward, which means it must go higher because the pesky axle housing is in the way. I'm thinking about taking the mounts off, cutting them up smaller, then just welding them on at the radius in the postion I need. Does anyone see any potential problems with this? I realize the shock travel will be about 2" shorter, but at a higher angle.

Also, Geo, if you flip the passenger side mount, you may need to cut off the guard plate.

I tried repositioning my Rt shock mount when putting on my exhaust. The axle has an alignment pin that only allows the mount to go on in 1 position. You would have to cut that off before you could reposition the mount.

Hey PSD, I thought you were no longer a wanabe!

I already addressed that awile back when I banged the left shock mount and it rotated around the axel, mangling the little tab that locates against spud welded to the axel housing. I bent the tab back in place after noticing that the shock mount rotated over time. Problem I see is that the force exherted by the shock could cause the mount to rotate around the axel without the spud to stop it. That's why I want weld it rather than just modifying and clamping back on with U bolts. What do you think?
