1. the front hangers that are used on the back ,what year and model did they come off of ?
2.are the shackels themselves any heavier (f250,350 or are they original)
3. i have 5.5 '' non tapper lift blocks that i want to remove when i do the shackel flip so any clue on how much this will change the pinion angle ( i can cut and reweld the spring perches if nesissary) just wanted to get an idea .
4.right now my shackes and hangers look like your 1st pic in gallery and was wondering if by doing the flip i'll get a better ride this is why im reall doing this (no give or flex right now) . i will not be haulling anything so that will not be an issue .
1. really any year hanger will work from 75-96, they are all the same aside from spring widths. i know for a fact 80-96 rears are the same
2. 250 and 350 shackles are about the same but f450 shackles use pretty hefty material
3. it will point your pinion up b/c you are dropping the rear of the spring. if you use stock shackles you will only get about 4 inches so dropping hangers down the frame would be a must if you wanna retain you level ride.
4. if you flip your rear and you get the right shackle anlge, about 35 degrees, then it should ride smoother
hope i could help and i am sure ivan will jump in and correct me where i'm wrong but thats just from my experience with mine
the shackles are not all the same. the front spring hanger on the rear axle from 1/2 to 3/4 ton is different the 1/2 hang down lower than the 3/4 ton im switching my front hangers with a two wheel drive 1/2 ton right now so i can get more lift and correct my pinion angle on my 3/4 ton, and if dealing with 1/2 to 3/4 ton the 78 79 all have the 3 inch wide spring in the 4x4. the 3/4 fromt the 70s to 77 have a 2.5 inch wide rear spring so the shackles are different. the 1/2 2 wheel drive have a 2.5 inch wide rear spring and im not sure about the 3/4 or 1 ton two wheel drives. hopefully this helps
The hangers that I'm using are off an 85 Bronco. They are a lighter guage than F250 or F350 hangers but are more than enough for the job. My shackles right now are stock. I'm going to be building new shackles, extended and a little beefier, but the stock shackles will work just fine
As fishy said the flip will point your pinion up even if you remove the block because you change the angle of the spring. If you pull a 5.5" block and do a shackle flip with a hanger you're going to be back pretty close to where you started but with less axle wrap.
The shackle flip will give you a lot smoother ride provided the angle is right. You'll also get a lot better flex out of it.
hey everyone i have one more ? looks like everyone that has done this set up has stock springs , i have the big ol bananna springs so will this complicate anything or doesnt that really matter ?
