I put a 2000 7.3 in my early 99. The truck runs great when I get up to highway speed. No power below 60. I am guessing the Injector module from my early 99 isn't set up for 2000 injectors. I was wondering if anyone knows if the computer can be swaped for 2000 up computer? They look the same size from the pics I have seen. And I know they go in the same place. But I can't tell if the plug is the same. Thanks to anyone who can help.
The IDM (injector driver module) is virtually identical in all year powerstrokes. They will all interchange without affecting anything. If you meant the PCM (powertrain control module) then there may be a compatibility issue between the early 99 and 00. The plugs are identical, and will swap without issue. IF the early 99 and the 00 both use AD code split shot injectors (the 00 does) then changing the PCM won't do anything either.
I'm having a problem with my IDM. It shut down just like you turned the ignition switch off on the highway. Had it towed to a dealership. Hoping it was just the CPS. I was wrong. The dealership quoted me $1400 to replace the IDM. I talked to the technician and he gave me the codes (p1292 and p1293) and towed it home. I pinpointed the IDM using the service manual, both codes led to IDM failure. I removed the IDM from my early 99 F250 (By the way the dealership wanted $300 labor for this, I am definitely in the wrong business).
I was able to purchase a used IDM off of a parted/totaled out 2002 (the engine ran). My original IDM has an aluminum backing, the newer one has a black backing. Will these swap with no problem? My biggest fear is plugging it in and frying something downstream. I have a relative at a distant dealership that can get me the correct IDM at cost. However, I can buy several used operational IDM for the cost of a new one. I also figure these are not a wear item. They either work or not (electronic, as long as you keep them dry, but really I dont know how you would get them wet in an OFFROAD 4X4 vehicle ).
