People cant believe I keep putting money into this thing 73-250 but I didnt buy it to have it broke down in the driveway. Took it to the trans. shop and told them to rebuild the trans. and drive train. $ 1400 later we are back on the road and no car pmts. and have a REAL truck.
having these old trucks definitly has its advantages, like you said, no payments, cheaper parts, and you dont need 3 car monitors, a laptop, and a 10 year degree to fix 'em........

My wife and I figured that we could go one of two ways: Pony up the money and buy a new rig for $50,000.00 (which is about as much as I paid for my first house) or buy a 77' 3/4 ton and put money into it. We went with the 77' and by the time we're done we will have put +-$10,000.00 into our rig and we'll have an essentially new 77' F250 2X4 with a 3" suspension life, 1" body lift, 460 motor and a 4-speed overdrive trans.
One way to justify putting money into an older truck is to try this: Sit in the cab of a new truck...ANY new truck...reach out and try to touch bare steel -- I challenge you!
I'd rather put money into something that will increase in value over time, something I really like to look at and drive, than invest $50,000.00 into 4000 pounds of plastic.
Ya they are worth it even the pain.I was cutting off my exhaust with a grinder,It kicked back and know I have 4 stitches inside my arm and 8 on the out side.My other half won't let me work on it for a few days. But I cant wait to hear the new 300-I6 fire up
Figure what new payments would be on a $50K truck. If you put that money in the bank each month it wouldn't take long for the bank account to cover almost any repair that may come up on your truck. If your truck was not worth repair, you could buy another truck. You can buy a waayyy nice 70's Ford for about 6 months worth of payments, and not have another 4 or 5 years to pay on a vehicle that is loosing value while you sleep.
You guys hit the nail on the head with the way this thread is goin! No payments for the truck, and bought a new travel trailer! The Crew Cab pulls it very nicely thank-you very much!! And isn't one of those cookie cutter new trucks you see on the road! Just wait as the mods and rebuild keep coming.
