what do you guy with tuners do if your pulling a hill with trailer and your egts statrs getting hot? just curios because where i live im pulling passes all the time and dont want to do something where i have to pull over on the way up the pass
I usually let off the 'go pedal'.
They get extremely hot when I'm pulling hills and trying to maintain speed, so you'll have to let off a little and sacrifice speed for cooler egts. Try shifting down a gear as well, will make the engine run faster and in turn create more boost which can help keep the egts down.
I don't know if you have any other mods, but the biggest thing to help that is a bigger intake and most importantly a bigger exhaust. Going from stock to full 4" on my truck made a big improvement in keeping the egts down.

Your question was the main reason that I got a flip chip instead of a tuner. If my EGT's start to get too high, I kick 'er down a gear to get the rpms up, but if that doesn't get the job done, I flip the switch into a milder program. I couldn't see pulling over and fiddling around with a tuner when travelling.
i know what your saying quad... i like the versatility of a flip chip, but, a tuner gives you so many more features for just a little more money... and once you figure out what each tune does on your rig, you should know which setting to load for what you're gonna be doin' on that trip...

Do you flip it when you have your foot in it, or how do you do it? I talked to a local guy that sells tuners, and his way of getting me to buy a tuner was to say that he's seen flip chips burn the computer up, because of the flipping back and forth. I didn't really believe that, but I'm also not sure on the affect of flipping from 110hp to 50hp on my chip while pulling a load with my foot in it. Have you noticed or know of any adverse affects?
I usually do it when I'm at an idle, I've flipped it a few times while cruising down the road, just not sure the affects it has, if any.
im really just wanting something to change the speedo for bigger tires so i was thinking a tuner on the lowest setting would work safely. the tru speed thing does only that and for 200 more bucks i can get a little power.

i change mine on the fly all the time. normally i will let off the pedal, change it, and go again. but i have changed it under power many many times and no problems yet after 4 years
Thanks wlihntr, I've changed mine while moving, but let off the pedal as well, just never under load. I guess I won't be as hesitant anymore to do it when need be, going down, or up...
My chip instructions say i can't change from stock to a hp setting, or vise versa while my truck is on. Is this the same for anyone else? Can i not do this?

Other than being able to be used as a scanner, what will any tuner do that a chip won't? Every little fine tuning step you can put into a truck with a scanner can be duplicated, or bettered, with a chip. And, with a tuner, you can only run one program without pulling over, whipping out the tuner, and changing programs. I merely flip a switch.

I was told once that you're not to change programs while the tranny is shifting, but being under power is OK. For example, if you're pulling a hill in 3rd, and you want to change programs, as long as your not shifting at the time, just flip the switch.

It sounds to me like he sells tuners, but not chips. If he sold chips, he'd probably make something up to encourage you to buy one of those.
I'm not trying to bash tuners, or the people that have them and like them. Depending on the way you use your truck, a tuner might be the best thing for you. But if you're looking for the best possible performance, there's really no contest. To this day, I've never heard of anyone that has pulled the chip out of his truck and replaced it with a tuner because the truck runs better on a tuner. I wish I had a dollar for everyone that has pulled a tuner out, and replaced it with a chip, however.
