Paint Reducing For Morons 101
Paint Reducing For Morons 101
A have a question on reducing Acrylic Enamel. I've done plenty of mixing for Base/Clear, primer, and some enamels. Everything I've mixed gives a ratio of what to mix: 4:1, 8:6:1, 3:2, etc. Well I bought some cheap enamel to paint my boat trailer and it doesnt give a ratio, says to reduce 35-40%. I suck at math! How does this compute to a ratio for mix so many parts enamel to reducer. Thanks

Simple. Measure out the amount of paint and multiply that by .35 and that will be the amount of reducer to add for a 35% reduction. So for a full quart of paint 32 ounces you would add 11.2 ounces of reducer. If you want 45% multiply by .45. But a 3:1 ratio is around what you are looking for.
