Reducing acylic enamel?

Help. I recently got some acylic enamel to paint my 71 with. It did not have any instruction label for reducer to paint ratio. What is recommended as a ratio? I think I read somewhere it was 50% or 2 parts reducer to 1 part paint. Thanks. Jim TN

Total novice in area of automotive painting so not sure if each brand has it's particular mixing ratio. I used brand called Limco acrylic enamel which calls for a ratio of 8 parts color, 1 part hardener, and 4 parts reducer. Am certain a more knowledgeable automotive painting member will be able to provide additional information.

good luck,
dave

Call your dealer and ask them for the p-sheet it will give you all the information you need including flash time between coats.

A pretty good way to check if you reduced it enough, is to stir it with a stir stick. Then pull the stir stick out of the paint, and count one thousand and one, one thousand and two......You get the idea. I like paint that is reduced so it stops dripping off the stir stick between 4 and 5 seconds. Any thicker, and I've had orange peel problems. Any thinner, and it doesn't cover well. The paint to hardener ratio given above is for pre-reduced paint to hardener.

I would start off with 2 parts color & 1 part reducer.
If it dont flow well add some more reducer.
It's best to have the correct temp reducer also, if it's a bit hot out side
then add even a little more reducer.
