Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I myself have considered purchasing one of the HEI distributors for the 460 in my Bronco. Just wondering if you still like it after a couple of months and does it work as well or better than the factory system?
i haven't had any problems with it..i would say it works as well as the factory system..it's hard to say if the distributor it self had a big change in performance because i replaced the whole top end (weiand 8010, holley 600, comp 268h and head work...the performance was better than expected...with the distributor installed straight out of the box the motor has alot of throttle...i was looking to clean up the engine compartment with the hoses and wires going everywhere...it's set up for one wire and has a connecter for the tach...i did have to add a carb. spacer though (1" 4 hole) and an air cleaner spacer (about (1/2") in order for the air cleaner to clear the hei...it's huge..looks and runs great though..i'll try to post some pics later today
posted pics in my gallery..let me know if you have any more questions and good luck http://www.procompelectronics.com/Files/1.html
there was a guy on ebay selling them for like $97 bucks

Reason: more info
Thanks for all your input. Looks like it's a pretty good set up. Like you I have been looking to clean up the engine bay and get rid of a few wires. I already have a carb spacer and flat air cleaner bottom on my edelbrock 750 so it should clear just fine. One other queston; is the hei cap pretty standard gm stuff? I would hate to order the distributor and not be able to replace the cap down the road. just curious.
that's a good question.one i probably should have thought about....called procomp people..she said it would have to be one of there caps for a replacement.not sure if she was up front or not but they are $7.00 + (shipping about $5.00) and come in black, blue, and red.i think i will order one next week and see what it looks like and hunt for a match..i'll have a backup anyway...better now than in the middle of nowhere..sounds cheap enough for $12 i would think...is the msd distributor the same way???where you have to buy a special cap??
I've been considering a procomp distributor - 6000 or maybe even a 7000 series, but the 6004 and 7004 are for the 385 series engines (351C/460) according to Procomp NOT the 335 series and there is no available unit specifically for the 335 series. The major difference is the distributor gear - not the same for 385 and 335 series engines according to the "expert" the girls at Procomp referred me to.
The gear is the same for the 335 and 385 series motors. It is the 351W that has a different gear. A 351C distributor will fit a 351C/351M/400/429/460 and vice versa.
That's what I thought too, but the Precomp tech - a differnent telephone number Procomp gave me - told me that the reason why the 351M/400 are not included in the 6004 and 7004 "351C/460 applications" is that the gear is different. His words not mine... Go figure.
