If I take a class in critical thinking, does that mean I will think like you? No thank you, you can keep the "Critical thinking" to yourself. I dont need to be held back in this world, and think close minded. I enjoy this worlds diversity, and like to be open minded to it all. Even people like you, or I wouldn't be wasting my time.
Ahh...so because I don't agree with you I'm "close minded" but you're "open minded" because you believe the same as what the majority believes...I get it. By all means skip the critical thinking class, I seriously doubt you'd be able to grasp the concept anyway.
Before this thread degenerates into nothing but name calling and ugliness I'm going to end my participation in it. I will not respond to any more posts in this thread whatsoever. I've made my point and there isn't any sense in continuing to argue since none of us is going to change the other's mind.
I will close this by saying that I am as shocked, saddened and outraged as the rest of you by this horrible tragedy. I would also remind you that there is only one reason that thousands of people suffered through agonizing seconds of pure terror as they were crushed to death and buried under tons of rubble...religion.
It may be true that they have caused this act in what they believe is of a religious nature, but in the same sense in their country and across the world are they not considered EXTREMISTS. All things can be misunderstood and/or bent into what you want it to be right or wrong.
As far as considering what bill_beyer was saying I will have to say he was giving it an open minded approach as he has stated or tried to, his timing was off and his reply held no respect for what Greywolf was trying to say, and he's the smart one.
bill_beyer I would like to ask you a question, keep in mind I posted what I did to show outrage for what I had read previously, all within reason. Answer me this, if you are so open minded how was it you could justify telling someone to keep their thoughts to themself even knowing this thought was brought about in a time of loss?
I think I understand where Bill is coming from and I have to agree with him. I open all posts to learn and try to understand how people think. I was mildly offended when I saw The Lords Prayer and was being asked to join in prayer. If I chose to pray I will pray to whoever I wish wether it be your God, my God or the God of "steelhead". It is my choice and I wouldn't dream of asking people to worship with me.

If anyone finds offense with his prayer offering I think you failed to read the last sentence of his post:
"If you are of another religion perhaps you may post an appropriate prayer also."

Greywolf has as much right to pray to his God as you Bill do to chastize him for doing so. Why would someone who is obviously offended by prayer even view posts headed "let us pray"? Until your last post on this thread, I had you pegged as a very intelligent individual. A little bull headed and set in your ways but hey, aren't we all to some extent. To blame the events of 9/11 on religon is without a doubt the most unintelligent post I have read thus far.
Since when did the World Trade Centers or the Pentagon become symbols of religon? Did I miss something? I venture to say these buildings were occupied by an extremly diverse cross section of Amerian, as well as other cultures. I'm fairly certain there were probably Christians, Jews, Catholics, Athiest's, Buddist's, Muslims, Rastafarians, Americans, (black & white) Hispanics, Asians, Germans, Irish, and excuse me if I left you out but you get the point.
Religon was not what was at stake here by any means! Freedom was and is at stake! It is what seperates us from most of the world. Freedom is not free! It comes with a price and sometimes must be paid for with human lives.
It really does't matter in the end who was wrong and who was right. I choose to believe in God and The Creation and if in the end I am wrong, well it's really no skin off your back. You do not have to belive as I do but please, respect my right to do so. I, in turn, will promise to respect yours. We all lost something on 9/11. Please allow us to grieve as we see fit and if someone offends you, do not retaliate with unkind words. Simply ignore them.
Peace

do you object to the president asking us to join in a day of mourning and "PRAYER" tommorow Sept. 14. In fact he him self said a day of prayer. Would that be an interference to your critical thinking on church and state.
I can hardly believe it - over so simple a thing...
I chose that one because I thought it was the most general, and the circumstances definately called for something of the sort (among those of us who believe in such).
I find it rather selfish the way this thread turned. Let's see we have an estimate of around 5000 dead. That's 5000 dead Americans of all faiths (as well as a few who probably didn't believe in religion per say or God).
We should be united as Americans, and not nit picking because somebody gets offended. In times of war, things are put aside and energy is directed at the enemy. That's called a united front.
God knows the enemy is directing his energy at us.
I have no beef with Bill, but I must ask: Bill, what harm was done by having the prayer posted? If good can result from it (provides peace to people, support to others, etc). Then it should be allowed. You are more than welcome to post a postive or supportive comment that would have been beneficial to all.
Godspeed to the USA in healing from this malicious act and in finding the people/nation responsible and bringing them to justice.
I appreciate the prayer. Iam only 17 years old but I know that God is needed in this situation. Any religion or belief is needed in this terrible situation. I read your prayer and addeven though it might be hard and i have reall trouble doing 2corinthians 2, 5-10

Would anyone be offended if I offered a prayer in the name of the Great Boogaloo? Nope. Because there is no such being.
Why, then, would it offend anyone who denies that there is a God if I prayed in His name?
Just a thought.
!!!! THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS CONTAIN CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN VIEWS AND MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR SOME AUDIENCES!!!!!
Jesus taught the vanity of placing faith in circumstance. Our nation seeks confidence in military might, foreign diplomacy and economic stability. These are simply manifestations of the circumstances of the world. Unless we trust God for our security, we will realize the futility of our faith in changing circumstances. We must trust the Unchanging God.
I believe God has had his hand of protection on our nation- not becuase we claim to be Christian or because we claim to be the greatest, but because we have allowed religious freedom and have allied ourselves with Israel (short version of deep theological issues). In the past, His hand of protection has been turned to wrath aginst people who have dishonored him (The flood, Gen 6; tower of Babel, Gen. 9... Sodom and Gomorrah, Israel, etc.) I wonder how long God will stand for the immorality of our nation.
Indeed, pray for our nation.

In retrospect; Now that's been said, I say we hunt that nasty son of a bitch down and STRING HIM UP!
Although there is another far more shadowy and viscious individual who may have directly coordinated it all, starts with an M, but I can't recall the name exactly.
Apparently THIS one has not been caught in a photograph for years, and may have had plastic surgery...
