DVD wiring

I put this in the audio thread, and haven't heard anything back, just figured I would try here.

I just installed the new Clarion VRX755VD unit in my ,04 F-150. When I go to play a DVD it comes up as Audio Only. Guys at Crutchfield said I have to run a wire to my parking brake in order to play DVDs. They also said I must have the parking brake engaged in order play a DVD.

This seems odd for two reasons. One, this defeats the purpose of the DVD Player and for that matter I know several guys that have In-dash players that watch movies as they drive. Two, the fisrt thing the unit says when it comes on is that it is illegeal for the "driver" to watch the screen while driving. What about the passenger?

Any help would be greatly appreciate. Especially a way around this.

sounds stupid...i wonder if you could run that wire to something else and trick the system into thinking its the parking brake.

That's exactly what I thought. Why can't I simply treat it as a power wire and run it to the constantor something of that nature. The dealer won't provide any tips. I guess just to cover there butt. I'm gonna try something tonight.

I know that some systems simply require that wire be grounded for the system to work. Im not sure about your specific system though.

I have a ground wire, and the system has been grounded. The only thing left is a long green chord that supposively has to go to the parking brake.

you could probably test the parking break and find out what changing of the parking brake position does to the wire your supposed to tap into...if all it does is make it hot with 12v...you could probably just tap in somewhere else...might not be a bad idea to put an in line fuse though.

Elo,

I grounded the wire this afternoon and have the thing working. It is sweet. I am interested in this switch though. Could you tell me a little more about it.
