new DVD player problem

Just wired in a Kenwood DVD player and it won't send a signal to the monitor. Something about a parking brake signal. There has to be a signal to the parking brake input of the DVD player. It will only send a signal to the monitor when in park. Weird. Anyways, what amperage is the parking brake signal and what can I connect it to so that my kids can watch the monitor while driving? Can I connect it to the power input of the monitor so there is continuous power to the parking brake input to bypass this issue?
Thanks

Paul

For safety reasons no DVD monitor mounted in the dash is allowed to play while the car is in drive. But there is almost always a bypass that will allow you to override this restriction. I'm not familiar with the Kenwood units so I'm not sure what your bypass solution would be. Sometimes its as simple as just wiring the parking brake lead to ground and other times its a more complicated software procedure. Try posting this question in the Audio/Visual section of this site and you can also try a google search for your model number and "bypass". Something will pop up. Good luck (and don't watch it while driving!)!

Yup as stated for safety reasons. HOWEVER search on ebay for kenwood bypass and a neat little blck box is available to do just what you want. I found out because Im looking into the kenwood ddx514 and came across the bypass box on ebay. Happy viewing

My DVD player is actually just a receiver with tuner and CD player. I have a monitor mounted to the roof of the truck. So I can't see the monitor anyways. The JVC I just replaced did not have this lockout. I will search ebay. The monitor I got is double the size what I had previously and takes up an entire seat..
Thanks for the info..

By the way it is a Kenwood KDV 415U receiver.
