I have had this truck for a year and have noticed that the 1-2 shift is sometimes very hard. I don't know if this is normal or what can be done to solve it? I really have to get on the throdle or baby it right at shift point to get it to smooth out. Do others have this problem or is it just mine? It is an early 99 with 155,000 miles. Right now I have the exhust sensor code lit, and it seems slightly worse than normal, but still does it without any codes. Thanks for any suggestions/opinions.
Problem found and repaired. It turns out that I did buy the spring and valve kit, and when I went to install it I found spring for 1-2 to be broken in 5 pieces. After finding another and installing it w/ the kit assist all is krisp and well. Thanks to all for your help.

I purchased the kit form blackcloud diesel for around 50 dollars. Here is the web address. http://www.blackclouddiesel.com/Ford...ion/sonnax.htm
Its not too difficult of a job, also be prepared to get a filter and some new ATF if you have not done so in a while. Good luck.

check the VSS, or possibly have a trany guy test drive it while using a scanner to watch the live trans datastream.
this will give him shift timing and line pressure.
i would not add anything after market unless the trans is definetly okay first.
