Talking Items Remove From Super Duty!

Hey Guys,

Here is the skinny on Plastic splash sheilds, Glove box lights and Hood Isulation.
The Body manager at Varsity Ford told me last night that the liners and Hood
Insulation promoted rust in some situations so the company opted to drop it.

Yes you still can order the parts on all three items at these point for now!,
I elected to order the splash sheilds. The glove box light was just plain cost cutting. See YA!

Does the glove box light still have the connector wired into the main harness if we did buy it?

Question

Not Sure Tim, Thats why I did not order. I need to find out if the harness in the Truck will mate with glove box wiring. When I go back to pick up Splash Liners,
I will see if the parts guy can pull up wiring diagram for the 05's.

Tim, the glove box light assmy which is part number E7DZ-14413-A is the entire assembly including the bulb that mounts directly into the hole in the upper left corner of your glove box. Unfortuneatly, the wiring harness is not in the truck anymore. I went to the bone yard and found a late model escort that had the same glove box connector and used it. I spliced the wires going to the power point plug. This is easily accessable by removing the interior piece, held by two screws, that has the "garbage bag hook" on it.

Now, this is just MHO, but I don't get it as to why so many are complaining/worried about not getting a glove box light. I have never seen one yet that really illuminates the box enough to see anything. I'd rather use the money to buy a good, small flashlight which can be used to see where to pick out little ricers under the valance.

My 04 have Glove Box light.. Its actuly bright. Mine is bright and works great.. Lights up the box the floor , no complaints. So the 05's dont have them? Thats kinda crappy if you ask me... I do wish that they had a lock for the glove box though. I know if someone wants to go in the will regardless but , if you have to vallet for some reason its nice to be able to through ipod , cd or 2 in there and lock it up atleast if you get your car back and its broken open you know who did it.. Sorry to get off subject a little..

I think it has more to do with its just something else "left" out of the truck. Not that its really that "important". I probably wouldn't even of noticed it wasn't there, if someone didn't post about it. Kinda like the lights in the door panels. The lens are there, but no bulb/socket

And why no lock on the gas cap? I haven't seen that since the gas shortage of 74.

Exclamation

I actuly do have a lock on my gas cap...Since you mention it....Ford Part. wouldnt have but a buddy of mine had someone put some sugar in his tank and well they found out it was kids in the area just playing but sure enough you know thats not warrenty and well it was about 9k for him to get a new engine it compleatly killed it. According to Ford.. Im not a mechanic but with the removal of the old one shipping of the new one and the cost of the new one and fuel pumps and this and that and of course instullation was massive... it all adds up. I know if someone wants in bad enough they will get in but its just a deterent. Like the lock on the glove box..Its not there to make you call a lock smith to get it open if you cant find your keys but its a deterent..

Tim,
Ya know, a good idea would be to list the "removed items" on one thread and post it in a tech folder. Between this forum and the super duty forum, questions regarding the missings items and their respective part numbers has been asked many many times.

rear wheel liners
front wheel shields
Glove Box Light
Hood insulator
Door Lights
etc...

Just a thought

Last night I stopped by the dealer to inquire about the wheel liners. They wanted $130 and $40 to install. I asked to see them on a truck. Their service truck had them and they are very cheap. I was curious as to how much crap gets up behind them. Fealing up under the truck, there was a ton of debris. I decided I would rather be able to easily wash mud, salt, etc... from that area rather than have the liner which wouldn't keep the debris out anyway.

Ever watch a show called "Mythbusters"? They had an interesting show regarding sugar in the tank (he poured a lot of sugar in the tank!) Also ran the motor with no oil or pan and sprayed the crank with water while running ( no load just idling) And it ran fine. Didnt mean to high jack the thread.

Interesting. Seems like sugar would dissolve in diesel fuel and be so dilute as to be of no consequence. I don't know this for sure but always thought the sugar in the tank story to be in the realm of urban legend. I suppose it could cause some damage though. I will probably not try to sweeten up my PSD, it's a sweet ride already.
