hey i have a '90 ranger xlt, two wheel drive, automatic that i recently purchased off a friend for $200. i thought it was a great deal, however there are problems with the transmission, it wont engage into 1st in OD. i can drive up to 80km/h in D and switch over to OD and it works fine, and i can engage into 1st in D. is it worth rebuilding or replacing? also it leaks a few drops of oil everyday, i dont know if the two are at all related, but thought i would just add that in.

It's 1200 to repair. Son's 89 did the same thing. Find a reliable tranny shop(good luck) and get an estimate and then shop it around other shops. Make sure the estimate is actual and not something that will double upon completion. Everything in it plus labor is 1200. Get it done before overdrive completely goes out.
