2000 Excursion Shift problem Please help
Hi all and thanks for helping. I have a 2000 Excursion V-10 4R100. Engine runs great no problems 165,000 miles. Started having troubles with Trans. Shift into drive when the engine/tranny is cold no problems just driveaway. Shift from Park to drive and some times it takes as long as 2 or 3 minutes to engage into drive after shifting. Once going the transmission is great no problems. Sometimes I shift to Drive and nothing happens, I can shift into 1st it will grab and go then shift into drive and were rolling again no problems.
Fluid level is full, no recent work on transmission
Fluid is still bright red not brown and dosnt smell burned
Im not getting any flashing from the O/D light on the shifter.
On occasion when I shift into Drive nothing happens, I can bump the RPMs up and it will hit Drive then its good to go.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be great Thank you in advance for your help!

If the shift handle feels loose and sloppy, you may have a loose shift cable at the steering column. Take the trim colored pannel from under the steering column off (4 plastic screws). Use a flashlight to look up at the steering column and you will see a cable running up into what looks like an aluminum colar. There are 2 screws in the colar that use an "I forgot the size metric" allen key. Tighten them up and maybe your problem will go away.
