Ill vote for the High Volume, high pressure is unsutied for street applications. Make sure its a Melling HV oil pump and get the hardened shaft. I run the Melling HV oil pump in my FE with stock pan, but I also run 6.5 quarts to ensure the pickup stays covered if the oil sloshes on a hard lanch.

Why are you replacing the oil pump?

i am replacing the oil pump because i removed it to install a new ft oil pan 10 qts compared to the stock 5 on my fe and upon opening it there is a fracture running through the housing looks like a poorly made pump guess you get what you pay for i believe it is a clevite brand

If this engine is for 'normal' street use, not taking it to the track, etc. I'd say a stock oil pump will do just fine.
Has the engine been rebuilt or are you doing this now?
I ask because-
As important as the pump is making certain the oil can return to the pan as quickly as possible. Making sure the oil drain ports are really clean, maybe even grinding them out a bit.

I agree a stock pump will be fine most of the time. But FE's have a known oil defficeny issue, and the HV oil pump helps to alleivate the problem. Make sure you get a good oil pump, it is one of the most critical parts of the engine. Good thing you caught the cracked oil pump before it failed and killed your engine.

I was thinking about switching back to stock pump. I have a high volume pump and I am having issues with valve covers filling with oil. I still have to pull my rocker arms off to make sure everything is okay with them. But I have to decide if I am going to ditch this HV pump before I put my pan back on. A couple of different engine builder I have talked to say all they run is HV. So I am a little undecided on what to do. I dont want to take the pan off again to swap pump out if everything else checks out.

It may be a little late, but I vote HV, with some conditions. Those are, that you run an ARP drive shaft, and your rocker arm assembly is in good shape. This you can tell by your oil pressure. If it's below about 15psi at idle, they're probably getting worn out. Without a restrictor in the heads, you'll get too much oil up in the valve covers, which can lead to smoking, leaking, and pinging if too much gets into the combustion chambers.
