In cold weather when I first start my truck in the morning. After im driving down the road and stop for the first time, my brakes really stop me on a dime! They literally lock up the wheels and I will skid to a sudden stop! I will then pump the brakes a few times while stopped and continue. After that, everything works fine. This only happens when the truck is still cold. I try to remember to pump the brakes first thing in the morning before I leave the driveway to prevent this. I don't always remember to do that and relize it when I reach the stop sign at the end of my street. Kinda embarassing when I skid to a sudden stop!
Paul W ,
Common problem with the rear brakes ...First make sure they are clean and adjusted properly . I also think Ford has a revised brake shoe that it tapered on the outer edges to reduce grabbing when they are wet and or cold .

Paul, I have a 92 F150 4x4 and it has the same problem as yours. It seems as if mine only does it when the brakes are damp. If I get any good info I'll let you know. I just posted a similar question.
