I purchased a wiper assembly out of a 74 super bug the other day for $10.00. It had a frame, and looks like it will fit perfect. All I need to do is cut a couple inches out of the length so the pivots will align up with the holes in the crowl on my 51.
don't have a picture (George probably has the engineer's drawings),but basically the transmissions and all of the ''back and forth'' hardware mount to a common bracket, I redrilled the cowl to 53-55 measurements and just bolted it in, I'll just use 55 wiper arms and blades. I did think to measure the angle and contour of both the 55 and 56 w/s and they are very, very close. The blades now swing in unison (which I prefer) instead of opposed. This allowed me to cut the firewall out below the cowl vent and make the whole thing flat and smooth. What's not to like?
I used a Newport Engineering motor on my 53. It bolts to the original mount and utilizes the stock linkage. It has two speeds and park. It seems like they have intermitant availablenow, not sure. It works great. Have had the same set up in my 46 coupe for several years now with no problems.
very interesting, is this thing multi-speed or have intermittent settings? thanks for the post by the way
I'm not sure at the moment, I need to find a wiring diagram as I just cut the wires. I was heading to pickup my 9" rearend and grabbed the wiper on the run. I was thinking after I left that I should have taken the wiper switch also.
If anyone would like to see a picture of the wiper assembly e-mail me with your return address.
I wonder if someone makes an aftermarket intermittent device for the early wiper motors. I purchased one for my 81 F150. Works great. I also purchased a 2 speed 12 volt wiper motor for my 55. I don't see why these aftermarket intermittent devices couldn't work on my 55.
