I'll bet any NAPA has an oil pump for a 5.4.. I'll bet the oil pump isn't any different on a 97-98 than an 04.. Just because they added a valve doesn't mean they changed the pump..
Sounds like the royal run around to me. I'd had a service manager by the throat a long time before this..
If those values are right, which I doubt, someone besides me is going to take a screwing in 07 when my lease is up.. If he gives you 18,500 next week it will be on his lot for 25-26k..
Back in September Guys were buying new 2004 trucks for $9,000 off.
I just payed $22,000 for a new 2005. I have a drop in Ford Liner, Black Steps, and 3.73 Gears. Other than that and color they sound identical.
Heavy discounting on new vehicles always hurts trade value.
Last year in July I leased my Scab Lariat. Sticker was just under 37k, invoice 32,400. I bought it 300 under invoice another 200 because I have my own buisness, 3500 rebate another 1000 off to lease through Ford Credit and another 300 for something the dealer was doing locally. It was 27,100. The pint is they will be doing the same thing in 07 in July when my lease is up. Truck will be worth 20,087 at the end of the lease with 36,000 miles on it according to Ford Credit.. I'm probably going to be under 30,000 miles then. I have the option to sell it myself, buy it or turn it in. Either way doing it in July of 07 when they are running the new deals who's going to buy it for more than 20,000, but the dealer will be stuck with it for that price. If the dealer can sell it for more why can't I?? As long as it's got less than 36000 on it either I or a buyer can add extra warranty..
This is my first lease, but what I heard the dealers are on you 6 months ahead of time to get you into something new. There's also an option to extend the lease for 6 months from what I understand. Either way it get's me away from year end rebates.. Again either way the next truck won't have the year end rebates if I trade early or late so it's a wash. They got me coming or going..
Dealer finally called today and claims they received an oil pump from Ford. The Service Manager said they think it was the relief valve which apparently is built into the pump that was causing the problems. They wont have it fixed and back together until tomorrow, and still have to completely repaint my front bumper from all the engine pulling they've done through the front of the truck. Completely destroyed the white paint. We'll see if this really fixes the truck. I'm hoping it doesn't and they just put a new engine in. If it does fix it, I guarantee the same damn thing or something worse will happen in another few thousand miles. Running with oil pressure that erratic for 8500 miles was not good for the motor according to another Ford service manager who happens to be a friend of ours. They are trying to offer me a warranty that isnt even as good as the one I paid for when I bought the truck. We got a 7 year, 100,000 mile, $50 deductible Base Care Ford ESP Warranty and paid for it when we purchased the truck. They claim all Ford will give us now is a 5 year, 100,000 mile $100 deductible Power Train Warranty. Well what the hell does that do for me. I would be better off using my own warranty for the lower deductible. Needless to say its less time and covers fewer parts. I told them they better figure something else out and they claim the service manager is meeting with the Ford rep tomorrow and will ask her what they can do. I'm sure not afraid to go to the owner of the dealership and talk to him about this and see if he can get more out of Ford. Bottom line, they will give me something better or buy down my deductible. Still all that gives me is peace of mind that Ford will try and fix my truck on their bill. Absolutely no assurance that no damage was done in the first 8500 miles we've had it. We're glad they finally found the part, but not sure what we'll do from here. Considering trading for a new 2005 F150, or possibly a 2005 Explorer. Hate to do that though since the Redesigned/Freshened 2006 is due out this fall. Guess that's why the rebates are so high on them right now. At least we did have one dealer offer us $19,000 for our truck. Still ridiculously low, but better than the $17,000 the last dealer offered us. I'm convinved everyone should buy demos or used models just to save themselves the pain. Manufacturer rebates and zero % interest are killing the market. I'll let you all know if the truck actually gets fixed or if it grenades on the way home. Hell, maybe someone will steal it from the dealer before I get there. Y'all have a good one.
