A good friend had same problem on same year. They chased it for two years. He gave up on the dealership and started the shotgun methode of troubleshooting. The first thing he tried fixed the problem. He removed the negative battery cable from the chassie side and spraped the frame replaced the cable and hasn't had a problem with it in over 8 months.
I don't know if this will help your situation but, here ya go
Larry
Thanks Larry, but I think it must be something else. I have more earths from my battery than you can poke a stick at. Heres a bit more info, if it stops at idle and i do not hear the fuel pump fire up with the turn of the key, if I slam the door the pump starts. New pump, new relays.
Kym ,
Are you losing ALL electrical or is the engine stalling ? As mentioned before that main ground cable is very important ...where it bolts to the frame its bare and corrosion works its way along that cable causing all kinds of electrical problems . All the other smaller grounds are there to aid the increased sensor and computer electrical connections . One other thing to check if you are not hearing the fuel pump running is have a look at the Inertia Switch . Its mounted up behind the clutch / brake pedal area on the firewall . Some of those things can be very sensitive ...Ive had mine trip simply hitting a big hole offroading . Try tapping on it as the engine idles and see if you can duplicate the stalling condition . Make sure its connection is secure too .
Paul
Thanks Paul, can you direct me to a photo or description so I can identify this, as I definently do not have an inertia sensor inside where you describe. If I bounce on a guard the idle will chang and yes hit a bump in the road etc.
I have a high idle and the following. The idle I can live with. I have recently had an intermittent electrical problem develop in my engine electrics. A 1992 F150 302W EFI. All engine electrics drop out momentarily, if you are stopped at the lights or intersection the engine stops and must be restarted, if you are driving, the engine will fire again after the brief interlude. I have not been able to get the problem resolved and talking to others this is a problem some have encountered without resolve other than to sell there F150. Has anyone else struck this problem and resolved it before I embark on what is bound to be a costly exercise.
Sounds like you have an intermittent ground issue. Check your repair manual for a ground schematic. I believe there are 6 major grounds, but check my figure anyway.
On an EFI truck, your grounds are essential, and need to be solid.
Next time you run across someone that wants to sell a truck because of a ground issue, point them to me....
