hey guys,
just put a new hurst shifter in my truck. (88 f150, mazda 5 speed)1st 2nd 3rd 4th and reverse work fine. 5th....no good. doesnt wanna go into 5th, then if i force it into 5th, it makes a light grinding sound. this sucks. then i put the stock shifter back into it, and it goes into fifth with no drama. might it have to do with the shift plugs? i know i should have replaced those while i was there, but i didnt. too excited about the shifter. but now its a headache and a half. any info would be greatly appreciated.
dammitt!! i knew i would forget something......NO ITS NOT A 4WD.
this is freakin killin me

oh and btw, getting in touch with hurst is like havin toenails pulled. all of them at once
lol i have felt the pain as well. Just finding the right place to call and talk to took forever.. not to mention how many times they redirected me to another number...and another half hour on hold before i got anyone. Took all day to get any answers. Hope you have better luck gettin it to work than i did.

Were you able to get your shifter to work?
I've been considering it and there don't seem to be any other options.
alright boys and girls, got the hurst shifter squared away today. here is the problem according to the guys at southern gear (http://www.yp.bellsouth.com/sites/southerngear/).we looked at the adapter plate and the top plate of the tranny today and found out that the notches on the bottom of the plate were not large enough to clear the pins in the transmission. one guy said that the pins in my transmission were the larger aftermarket type, the other guys said that all the pins were that size, not just the aftermarket ones. but at any rate, we enlarged the notches on the adapter plate and BOOM, I GOT 5th GEAR BACK. anyway, gotta run, i got a date with 5th gear and the highway....see ya, and Snowman, that may have been your prob too. Anywho, Im out
