Egr valve

Hey boys i was fooling around this weekend and decided to take my egr valve off and make a block off plate to cover the hole in my manifold on my 91 f159 with 5.0. made the cover out of plate steel and bolted it on , but left egr valve dangling with all wires and lines still connected
I have been driving it since and have noticed a 2 mile per gallon increase. and the truck runs as good or better than before. Has any one else exprimented with this?

Egr valve

I have never had mine disconnected , Other than being an Emission Control Device , It also reduces cylinder temps a little . The sensor mounted on the back of the Egr valve inputs data to the computer showing how far the valve is open . Its not a nessecary part of the engine so if you find your engine runs better with it off thats cool . One other thing ....you could have acheived the same results by simply unplugging the Egr Vacuum line and plugging it rather than fashioning the plate to cover where the Egr was bolted to the intake .
