Ok, we all have basically the same electrical system....
I need a good 12 volt coffee maker.
I bought the Vector 5 cup from Bass Pro Shops for $29.95 and it stinks.
It takes 30 long minutes to do 5 cups and it doesn't even keep it very warm. It has a plastic bottom carafe so it doesn't heat up from the bottom very well.
One thing it did heat up was the plug!!!!
Granted, this was with the engine off. It may take 2 minutes less with the engine running.
I also tried a belkin inverter with a 120 volt real coffee maker. I use the Belkin to charge my laptop so that's why I have it.
It didn't even START the 120 volt unit.
I got to have my coffee when I wake up when camping.
May just have to buy another camp stove and boil coffee.
I just bought a 800 watt power inverter and hard wired it. I have an outlet in the bed and one behind the center console. Most coffee pots for the home are about 650 watts. hope this helps. Im the same way about my coffee and its the reason I did that. I had the vector as well and your right it stinks.

What brand/model did you get?
Anyone have inverter suggestions?
I just got one of those coleman inverters that was on sale at the local checker auto parts. 800w was like $70.00 than i just just bougjt an amp instal kit and hard wired it to the batterry. than i ran ext cords from the two outlets to the external outlets i placed in the bed and behind the console.
Cool Mike, sounds good.
I wanted to run a 12 gauge wire inside from the engine compartment and couldn't find a hole big enough. How did you get that big wire in, floor pop-out plugs?
An amp install kit? What is that?

its a heavy gauge wiring kit for installing a stereo amplifier.
There is a perfect hole for large guage wire ( i think i fit like 2 gauge with plenty of room) on the passenger side right below where the carpet ends. shine a light down there or up there from inside and you should see the rubber plug.
I hope you're not thinking about 12ga. for that inverter.
800W/12V = 66.6A
12ga. is rated for about 35A with a temperature rise of 10deg. C. You'll want to run 4ga. to power that big of an inverter.
My electronics gear all runs off a 1/0ga. run!
Nooooo, the 12 gauge runs pity little stuff like a GPS and an indoor/outdoor thermometer. Also runs a low wattage inverter that plugs into the lighter for charging my laptop.
I'll run 1 or 2 gauge off the 800 watt puppy. I just needed to know what folks liked and where to get it.
I do appreciate you bringing it up though...
Everyone, thanks for your input, you've made my search for a coffee pot and the REAL inverter easier!
Didn't mean to offend with the wire-size comment... but I've watched people who didn't understand the concept let the magic smoke out of things (one or two managed to let the magic smoke out of the entire vehicle - and if you know anything about magic smoke, it's dern hard to put back in!)
Brews a fresh, hot cup of coffee into a thermal 15 oz. (450 ml) travel mug in minutes.
The insulated mug is tapered and has a contoured, easy-grip handle - fits most vehicle cup holders.
A brew-thru lid is also easy to drink through.
Includes a reusable, permanent filter - no need for paper disposables.
Also heats water for tea, hot chocolate or instant foods like soup, noodles, or oatmeal.
The travel mug fits all Black & Decker-brand Brew 'N Go™ coffeemakers.
Features a power "On" light with automatic shut-off for peace of mind.
Dimensions: 10.25"H x 6.75"W x 6.875"D
Weight: 2.40 lbs

Thanks for the link, I like the product. No offense taken by the comment, you're just looking out for me. That's what's great about you guys. I'm thinking on getting the Xpower 1750, found it for $199, found it at 4lots.com. I'll mount it behind the rear seat back. They also have a 5W solar panel I can use to charge my golf cart batts (2 8-D 6V in series = 12V) I'll put on the rail under the bed. I'll stick the 10x14 inch panel on the inside of the back window. The panel will be hardwired to the batts (worries of overcharging??) Also the remote on/off switch as I think the inverter draws 1.5 W when static. I can hook all these together and remain completely separated from the truck's power system. I believe the panel will suffice as the batts will be charging 98% of the time with 2% usage. I think I've done enough research but I'll do more.
Now, I just need a way to mount the batts under the bed on the rail!!!!
Thanks again for all the input, I'll let'cha know how it works.
Steve...
