Question engine removal for gasket change

My truck started losing coolant today, so I took it to my mechanic to see what was going on. He decided the coolant was coming from a bad lower intake manifold gasket. The bad news was that he would have to remove the entire engine just so he could get the bolts out of the manifold to replace the gasket. Could this be true? My truck is a 99 5.4 suprduty with 109,000 miles.

NO!!!! He can do everything in the engine bay. Sounds like he is trying to get extra unnessesary labor out of you. If my memory serves me correct there is a rubber hose underthere towards the back that often leaks coolant, bad news is the manifold still needs to be removed! I know mustangs have the coolant hose.
Good Luck

How was he going to get the engine out? If I am not mistaken, the body has to be removed to pull the engine. True on an '04 and '05 anyway.
