TBI Spacers

Has any body tried a throttle body spacer on a 300? They claim a gain up to 5mpg and more low end hp. My truck is stock exp. a K&N filter. The gas prices are killing me with how much I drive. Is there any thing else I can do as well. I get 14mpg highway!

Don't know if this will be any use to ya, but I just like to quote it. If it helps ya, cool. If not, it only took me a few seconds to find. Not much time wasted.

That's how dynos are calibrated for temperature changes. Does anyone really believe that all those OEM manufacturers designed expensive plastic inlet systems - for the last 20 years - that pull cool air from the fenderwell, hood or grill because they didn't have anything else to spend their money on? Then there's those "factory calibrated" mass air meters that do not use a chip or re-calibrated processor with oversize injectors. They unwittingly reduce the voltage signal to the mass air meter to compensate for the larger injectors at WOT but they neglect all the driveability issues. The result is over advancing timing, lean mixtures, detonation, surging, bucking etc.

if your only getting 14 mpg you might want to take it to auto zone or advance auto or such and have them check if the engine is throwing any codes. Also proper gearing is always essential. make sure your not driving down the highway at 65 at 3500 rpms because, it's a killer on gas. If your rpms are awful high on the highway i would just slow down for now until you can get a new gear set for it....

ha and i complain about my 4 speed hehe. I won't anymore i only turn like 2400 at 65. I just hate it when i can't down shift from 4th to third to pass people. Poor engine's rpms can't compensate the low gearing. It drives me crazy and i run 35s with 3.50 gears. O well g/l on your truck mines going up for sale this weekend.

TBI spacer don't give any noticable power increase or MPG increase in a fuel injected engine. They do provide a noticable throttle responce increase. The spaces work best in carb'ed engines.

Correction lutz, i turn 2500 rpms on the highway! still to high...I WANT OVERDRIVE!!!

yeah i dont imagine tbi spacers should be made for the 4.9, the 4.9 isnt supposed to get a lot of air flow for the low end torque.
