Believe it or not folks but yesterday I filled the tank on my Bronco and headed for Columbus. Half of my 94 miles drive was on state highways at 65 or 70 mph with approximatly two dozen stops. The other half was on divided state highway and the cruise was set at 70. Got back to C-town, filled the tank at Shell for $1.93. Figured out the milage and it was 20.25 MPG. I about crapped my pants. Just thought I would share that good news with you all.
I know for sure it was 94 miles corrected by 5% for the tires being larger. The fuel was 4.??? gallons, not exactly sure what the gallons were but I do know for sure that it was 4.???. Even if it were 4.99 gallons I still got 19 mpg.
Yeah but he neglected to tell us he's running a 35% propane injection system . Thats unheard of mileage in these trucks even brand new! Are you certain the fuel pump you went to was showing the correct amount of fuel delivered? I mena I know its in the filling stations's best interest to be sure they are correct but I still have real trouble believing that kind of mileage...even if you were running a 300 I-6!
20.25 mpg is a little high, but once adjusted for tire size (19.25) it's in a believable range for me. (less then 1 mpg above my own record ) If one can drive in near ideal conditions (no traffic, flat terrain, steady and not too fast speed , no lights or stop signs) that will take out the gasoline necessary just to get the 5000 lbs car up to speed.
BTW, I'm planning on bypassing my AC and converting to a temperature controlled electric fan, and I expect these two could get me as much as 1 mpg gain.
Nothing to it. Just recalibrate your speedometer/odometer to travel a mile in two minutes and we all can get 20 mpg and go to work for Jack Roush....Sorry, enjoy the fantasy while you can. I couldn't resist.
Hey Guys!? If Buckeyebronco says he got 20 mpg, I'm curious. I want to pick his brain about how he did it rather than pick on him. Personally, Ford engineers tell me that I get 17.2 mpg, according to their computer. Something's out of sync. My stock 5.4L 2001 F150 has never gotten better than 12 (city or hwy) from new til now (43k miles). My 86 chevy would hit close to those numbers on the hwy but my Ford with 15 years of technological advances, can't even come close. So, Yes, I'm curious Buckeyebronco, how did you do it??
We are all quite envious of buckeyebronco. We have a way of picking on buddies. I'm trying to break 15 mpg highway and think I will if I can quit using 4L and use a tank of gas on the the highway. I want to see what the 460 air intake tube and correcting four vacuum problems did. The cost of gas has us all interested in mpg. This reminds me of my driving 155 mph laps on Texas Motor Speedway and getting all new respect for the pros who do it at 200+. buckeyebronco must have a F-18 fuselage for his Bronco body.
