I installed a hi volume oil pump with main jet restrictors in the heads. My valve covers still fill up with oil. I was wandering if anyone else has had this experience? I am think about changing pump out to standard volume pump.
I'm sure mine fill up as well. I'm running the Edel heads with no restrictors. But, I'm running an FT 10 qt oil pan, so I don't worry about it as much.
How do you know they are filling up? And, what restrictors are you using?
What size jets did you use? Unless your valve covers are leaking or your PCV is sucking oil, I wouldn't worry about it. Also, used rockers can let alot by even with the restrictors. I'd fix the top end and leave the HV pump alone.
It is coming out of the breather and the filler cap. What do you recommend fixing on the top? I am running the .090 main. By the way the engine is a 390. I also have the old rockers. I am not sure going down a couple of jet sizes will fix it. But it would also be nice not to change the pump.
Check your oil drainback holes. Make sure they're cleaned out and open. If they're not, no amount of restriction is going to fix it. If they're clean the solution is to go to Napa, DSC, or your favorite auto parts store, and get new rocker shafts and rockers. That will provide the best results.
Like rusty70f100 said, if the rockers or shafts are worn, you'll get lots of oil up top no matter what...
Take the rocker shaft off the head, and see how loose the rockers are on the shafts. If they are loose, take them apart and check the shafts - either the rockers or the shafts or both will show obvious wear...
That's always a good upgrade. DSC has 'em for $260. They list 'em as "FE Adjustable Rocker Assemblies". You'll have to get pushrods for it too, they're listed as "427 Ford Adjustable Pushrods" and go for $45 for a set.
