Question dual on straight six?

alright this may sound like a stupid question but then again im relitivly young and i'll blame my stupidity on that. i have a 84 150 straight 6 and i keep reading of people putting dual exaust on trucks just like mine. the question is how does dual exaust work on a staight 6? i mean doesn't dual exaust imply 2 headers? do people just split the pipe into two parts or can you actualy have two headers on the engine?

i guess you could have 2 headers on the engine but ive never seen it like that...what i see on the straight 6's is one header and split pipes to make it look like true duals

I have duals with 2 headers. It is for the front 3 cylinders, and the back 3. It runs into dual 2.5" pipes with turbo mufflers

Some straight sixes came with a split-manifold, so true duals are possible.

If you have an 84 you are best going off with a dual-outlet muffler. Basically run the pipe off of the header into a single outlet/dual-outlet muffler and then you'll have 2 tail pipes. 2.5" piping would be your best bet for this as far as performance goes. Putting a true dual on isn't going to help performance in my opinion. Just install a good flowing exhaust with a dual outlet muffler if you need the dual look.
