New engine Rumor?

Hey everyone... I heard a rumor that Ford is going to be dropping the 6.0 in the next year or two and switch to an 8.1 liter diesel. Anyone been hearing anything about this? I don't know how reliable the source was and am just curious to see if anyone else knows? I know Camless diesels are being thought about so I think an 8.1 with camless technology would be pretty freaking cool.
Thanks,
-Phil

I've heard rumors of a 6.4l diesel based on the current motor. I haven't heard of an 8.1...

Good subject.....but the 6.0 is staying sorry. 6.4L version of the 6.0 is coming in 07 from much debate. Ford is on target to meet emissions......not so sure about the others keeping HP and emissions in line.

6.0 is a gonner?

I just got my turbo pedestal replaced. The service manager said he went to a dealer meeting and the 6.4 is going to replace the 6.0 without question. 07 models will have it and the 6.0 will be gone. Hope this is not true but he was pretty convincing....If you have an 03 with the turbo drone get the new ped. its so much nicer at lower rpms like a new truck.I must learn how to post had the same post twice that is why it says noooo above sorry.

OK. So the new motor will be out in 07 model year......so.......can't buy the first one(remember early 03's?), wait until they get some of the bugs out of the 07's.........can't buy any early 08, because those probably still have 07 motors..........and nobody wants the first production run of a model year......so......somewhere between the 08 and 09 models? I'm getting a headache just thinking about it. Maybe my 03 will actually last that long without blowing up . It's running great, but I can feel the clock ticking on those C94's. I'm just hoping they blow before the warranty does.

I just talked to a Ford Shop Foreman and he said that they just got in a Power Stroke with 700,000 miles on it. Yes I did say 700,000 Miles. I asked him what the engine looked like inside and he said that he hadn't torn into it yet.
My point is that if you are taking care of your engine, well, I suppose that your engine will last until the 08/09's are available.
Don't know about those C94's, maybe sabbotage them??? (just kidding)

yeah, he'd have to be averaging 15k/month even with an early '03.

Does anyone think a 6.0 can do 700,000 miles?

Yes the 6.0 is reving way to high to stay together much past 200k,the local navistar guys say the ford programing pushes the engine past what it was designed for. they also say that is why the 6.0 is being dumped in favor of the 6.4 not emisions as some have said.

Yes. It certainly would have to be with that many miles. I hope that the emissions issue hasn't hurt the longevity of these trucks.

That is awful information. I hope this is incorrect. I have heard that the highly anticipated "new flash" , when it comes available, will change the shifting strategy in the trannie to downshift sooner. I wonder how that will affect longevity? Actually, it might help avoid lugging which would help the lower end I would think.
