Development of the 6.4L is being driven by the tighter 2007 EPA Emissions Standards for Medium and Heavy Duty Trucks. Since the 6.0L will be replaced in the Bus and MD markets by the 6.4L its days are numbered.

BTW there are already lots of 200,000 mi + 6.0L in the Travel Trailer Delivery Business.

My question is this. Is the 6.4 just a 6.0 bored out or not? How can you rev an engine to high for what its designed for. I still believe most peoples problems are related to aftermarket add ons progammers, chips etc. And believe me most people do this then they wonder why they have problems. Hey but its the muscletruck era 40 years after the musclecar era. We wanna be the baddest truck around. How dare we have a cummins or duramax blow on by. You dont think people race there trucks. I see it all the time. Not a planned race just a little side by side action at a stoplight or even on a two lane highway. Dont you love it. Hey I dont race. Nah. When that Cummins or Duramax guy is next to you an no traffic ahead. The race is on. I always seem to get on it harder when the situation arises. Dogone it Im guilty too. Sorry to get off track here. Just havin a little fun.

I keep hearing about tighter emissions standard for '07, but it's my understanding that we are getting a NEW diesel fuel for '07 and adopting an emissions standard similar to europe's. So I think it will be a BETTER motor provided they don't RUSH it into production. Just remember this there is no replacement for road testing thousands of vehicles. Just because one does xyz on the test track and in the r&d facilitiy doesn't mean it's not goin to have problems in the real world. The 6.0 is a good example as are the early GM 4.3v6, and the entire new V8 line from GM.

A "reliable source" (Navistar management) has told me the same.

That reliable source at Navistar would be true... Your job is about to get harder Vic.
The 6.4l uses a quite a lot of the 6.0l's basic architechture

As for cam-less engines and the like. Not in the forseeable future. Would be nice though.

It would hurt, but nothing a good bath in diesel and sump oil wouldn't fix...

Yea, it's going to have plenty of HP and Torque, more than you need. Anyway you don't really need all that power, what YOU really want is a Ranger. At least that's what my local salesman told me and I have no reason to doubt him.
