Ford 300 vs. AMC 258

Can anyone tell me if the Ford 300 rocker set up is similar to the AMC 258? I am having some ticking problems, the AMC is not adjustable, and I would like to upgrade or convert if I could figure out how.........

They're similar in design, but not in ratios, IIRC...

After about 1985 the Ford six isn't adjustable, studs are made that you
tighten the nut and your done. As far as the 258 if the engine has aluminum
rocker bridges they wear and the valves get noisey.

You can convert the positive stop rockers to adjustable.
You can do it the fancy way with poly locs, or whatever,
or do it the cheap way which is what I did. Just use two
rocker nuts per rocker. The first is installed as normal, and
adjust the valves to your liking. Then take the 2nd nut, and
install it *inverted*, and use it as a lock nut. You have to hold
the bottom nut with a wrench, to keep it from moving, while
you tighten down the top inverted lock nut. I've been doing
this for about 2 years or more, and have only had one come
loose, and I think thats only cuz I didn't tighten the top nut
as tight as I should have...It was one of the first I did...But
that was months ago, and haven't had any problems with any
others, or that one since. You could use some loctiight if you
wanted a bit extra holding insurance..I did this on mine, cuz
I wasn't satisfied with the valve adjustment..Some valves were
too tight, and I prefer to adjust, rather than change pushrods...
I keep my valves only about 1/3 turn down from zero lash....
