i got and 1981 ford f-100 300 inline bought it brand new this is the second engine in it.. i bought the second engine from my work out of and old work van the engine was bought at ford and it only had bought 50,0000 miles on it wen i put it in the truck now its got about 60,0000 miles on it and its got a blown head gasket the shop told me the cheapest it could come out to is 850.00 bucks if nothing else goews wrong...do yall think i should get it fixed...are put a v8 in cuz i would like a lil extra power too....where are some good web site are places to get a good engine from...thanx for all yalls help
A new head gasket is $35.99 at Schucks. Unless there is engine damage from coolant leaking where it isn't meant to go, You could save quite a bit from just doing it your self.
An 8 banger is going to cost more. And you could easily get alittle extra power from the 300.
If you don't want to tear into the internals you could do Carb, intake, ignition and exhaust and have more than 80 more HP. If you added internals to compliment the bolt ons, the power possibilites are as endless as your wallet allows. My 300 I6 has 300HP and 400 Torque.
As I always say, Six in a row makes it go, less than that ain't gonna tow...If it's a V it ain't for me.
