I bought a used 2005 F350 SD with the diesel & AT.
we got it last February and we now have ~50,000 miles on it
we tow a 8000lb trailer ~600 miles every other week.
when we first ran the truck we were getting 18 mpg w/out the trailer and 15 mpg with it.
now we only see 12 mpg w/out, and 5-10 with.
we also get alot of smoke when we start the truck (cold or not)
two dealers have worked on it:
we have 7 new injectors, new mass flow sensor, new mass flow valve (?), new partial wiring harness.
I have a same sort of problem. Lots of white smoke and a terrible smell inside the cab. Thats usually on startup. When its warmed up, it still smokes a little. Almost a blue color exaust. Yea, and the Turbo is cycling over and over. MPG has gone down to 14. Unplugged my EGR Valve. Terrible lag on startup and acceleration.
I forgot about the turbo issue.
This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does boy is it loud!
When towing, and after a hill, we get a loud racing sound.
(It sounds alot like my 250 460 gas engine downshifting.)
But we can't detect what causes it or why.
The turbo boost doesn't jump, neither do any other guages.
Of couse the dealer can't find anything.

I have been having the same problem. 2004 350 with about 39K miles on it. I have been noticing lag in the turbo and accel and reciently I have been noticing the white smoke. At first it was not very bad just a little bit, but its been getting worse and worse. Just today I went to start my truck and it would not turn over, just cranked for maybe 30 seconds, then once again the same, on the third try the truck started after about 15 seconds and then my truck just started pouring very thick white smoke. Enough to fill my front yard and make the neighbors look outside. Anyone know whats going on?
You're saving fuel, you are 'burning' water from somewhere. Head gasket, or maybe thru the fuel system. I'm not sure how water could get thru the new fuel system but maybe. Good luck.
Did you figure out your problem? I just started having the same problem today. Lots and lots of white smoke.
