Question Ticket, What should i do??

I got my first ticket today, it was for careless driving. I turned onto a road and about halfway through the turn I hit the gas. The cop asked me if my throtle stuck. So i was wondering if i should just pay the $85 dollar ticket and take the two points or try and fight the ticket. A couple of my buddies said they fought their careless driving tickets and got rid of the points but paid over $400. They said it was better in the long run to pay more and get rid of the points. Since I didnt really do anything wrong I thought maybe I could get rid of the points without paying so much.
Thanks in advance
Rich

When the cop asked if the throttle got stuck did you say "Yes, the darn thing.. happens every once in so often.. in fact, I'm on my way to NAPA to see if I can get one" or "Nope, I just wanted to punch it around the corner"?

I'd much rather pay a steeper fine than have the points.. so its probably worth it since a careless driving ticket will probably make the insurance go up.

I don't think they would reduce the fine, but then again perhaps you might win the case. A co-worker of mine went to court twice to fight the same ticket. Both times the officer never even bothered to show up. The second time the judge just threw the case out and my coworker didn't have to pay a dime.

If you have the option of paying the fine by mail, overpay it by $5.00. When they send you a refund check, tear it up and throw it away. DO NOT CASH IT. This will leave an open balance and as long as it is open it will never show up on your driving record.

As long as it was you first ticket dont pay it. There should be an option for court date on the ticket. Go to traffic court plead guilty and ask for a (Differed Sentence). This will not go on your record if you keep your nose clean for a year or two depending on local laws. You will have to pay either the ticket price a $35 court fee or both but it will keep insurance down.

This isn't guaranteed to work and even if it does it might come back and bite you years later.

When the cops lights went on,did you get that:" Damn, I shouldn't have done that" feeling ?

You didn't say what happened when you opened it up.

Squealed a tire ?

Went from side to side in your lane driving erratically?

Raised dust & dirt... bringing attention to yourself ?

in louisiana we have an article 894 option. the ticket will cost you approx. $50 more, but if you are good for 6 months it never touches your record. i have averaged 2 tickets a year for the past 6 years and only one on my record when i got 2 tickets withen 1 mile.

Plus, they could always send a letter saying.

In the event of an over-payment cheques are not sent out for $5.00 or less

Might as well pay it and get it done... With the state comp. hook ups.... a friend went to renew his NY license was not allowed to do so due to unpaid FL fines.

You must be a Youngin'.

Cops try to break you of bad habits when you are young. Because there are just too many drivers abusing the laws every day, every hour, every minute on every street. So, the police figure the best way to keep everyone in line is to target that 16 to 25 year-old crowd and let you know that it is wrong to drive like a nut. Even though you might see a 50 year old guy/gal flying down the road, the cops will shake their head and look down, and wait for the next inexperienced driver, so they can put the fear into them. The police are trying to save our lives but can't possibly control all the crazies. I break just as many road rules as I did when I was 20, but the police haven't bothered me in ten years. I don't wear my hat sideways, listen to loud hip hop or drive a poorly modified ricer with a coffee-can exhaust. If I did all that and tried to pretend I was a 20-something I'm sure the cops would start pulling me over again.

Maybe the ticket is the best medicine for you, consider yourself warned...it is dangerous out there and speed and carelessness kill innocent people on the roads every day. You can fight the ticket or not, but you have been warned.

go to court, when you go before the judge point out your clean driving record and ask for court supervision with a guilty plee usually you will get 3 to 6 months and if you keep your nose clean { no more tickets} it wont go on your driving record
