If you've been driving for a few years and haven't had a ticket before, go to court and point out your clean driving record... you should get off of it.
go to court bud..i did.. needless to say the charge as not dropped but i did get the ticket fine reduced which is very common. If you don't go to court you'll be missing an chance to possible reduce/get rid of your ticket.
Show up in court and bargain on the cop showing up....
I've gotten a slap on the wrist by showing up and looking like a million bucks in one of my several suits while the local drugie who shows up in shorts, gets chewed on, then has to change into pants issued by the court gets reamed into BIG TIME......in my locale, pay like $80 and it's off the record if you are good for 3 months. When I had my restaurant and did 16hrs/6.5 days/week, that was okay, even though I got popped for evidently not using the brakes long enough to stop my previous truck (with manual tranny) to where the cop would see my lights from behind the bush he was parked in. I had no time to file motion for discovery, etc....
As for that overpayment crap....IF I was a gubmint worker, one, I'd swipe the $5 and pocket it, two, rip up the ticket like it was never sent in and get a warrant put out for that particular loser. No proof of payment = SOL!
In indiana (I know for a fact) if you get a ticket for ANYTHING it is automatically sent to the isurance agency. In ohio they don't make you prove insurance to get tags (which is stupid to me)... In IN you have to have it to get them, and they put the information right on the registration.
In Louisiana, right when you walk into the DMV, there is a big sign on the wall stating that proof of ins. is required for all transactions. I recently renewed my license and their computer showed that I have 3 cars registered to me and I had to provide proof of ins. for all 3 before they would renew me.
2) Show up for court, most DA's figure you're there for a REASON (to fight the ticket), and they'll offer a plea with a reduced fine.
What have you got to lose by going to court? A couple hours of your time? I've been driving for 30 years +, have gotten a number of tickets and have showed up for every one of them. They've offered a reduced charge EVERY SINGLE TIME. You wouldn't believe how many times I've "failed to obey a traffic device."
Sorry I haven't replied but I've been king of busy lately with work and stuff but to answer a few questions I'm 17 and just got my licence so I don't really have a clean driving record to point out. I dont see why he pulled me over, I wasnt driving a ricer or anything it was an old beat up pickup and I didn't squeal the tires. He asked me what I thought he pulled me over for and I said speeding (I wasn't paying attention to my speed so I could have been) also what would happen to my insurance fron the two points. I'm paying about 300 for my truck and 300 for my just being on the policy.
This is not a lecture it is a real life explanation
As an 18 year driver back in 1968,I was peeved at other young drivers that dis-obeyed the traffic laws and got fines, suspensions, collisions, etc which caused MY Insurance rates to go up.
Maybe consider this as you get older.
Tell your peers to stop breaking the law & raising you insurance rates in the process.
Most places I know of now have 2 year probation periods.
That meants if a person drives poorly & has collions, fines, etc,.
The gov't can take their license away.
