Hello All! I went through the forum and couldn't find an exact match to my problem so I decided to start a new thread.
Firing order.
I have a mifire on cylinder 5 (autozone diagnosis) and I'm guessing it's the coilpack/wire/plug. Is the firing order on these modular motors (I have a 4.6L '98 f150) the same as the old windsors and clevelands? (1-4 pass, 5-8 driver side) It's a pain in the *** to drive right now...I don't wanna hurt the thing and it sucks looking at a check engine light. Any help would be great!
btw, just had a look. my truck has 2 coil packs, not coil on plugs. i jerked around with the wires pushing them hard into the packs and it seemed to help just a bit. i'm guessing i'll need new coil packs. any suggestions?
How old are your plug wires. If there old may need to replace them if there in good condition try some dielectric grease on the spark plug wires the moisture gets in around the sparkplugs and causes it to miss
wires are new 12,000 ago. dielectric grease inside the coilpack where the plug wires go, right? this is weird. what a crappy design. never had this problem with a good ol' distributor.
Make sure there is sufficient dielectric on the spark plug boots. Thats where the moisture gets trapped. I had new wires too with the same problem. That was the problem with mine. only happend when it was wet though. Probally not easy to check with all that powersteering reservoir and brackets in the way
I have a 97 150 4.6 4x4 had miss fire on the #4 . I replced plug and wires ran great for 2 weeks miss came back change the coil pack still had the miss. Went back to plug it was wet ! the rubber heater hose had a small leak and it goes right on plug, went nuts trying to find it . I will always make sure i keep the greese on it!!
so does anyone know the firing order for these new modular fords? is it still 1-4 passenger 5-8 driver side? i've changed plugs and coil packs now and nothing's changed. still runs like crap. i'm about to just trade the thing in it's irritating me so bad.
the order is still the same #1 in front #4 in the back . did you check for a coolent over top of the #4 plug it will short out a new plug wire. it is a short rubber hose and the clamp will get lose .and make it miss all over again .the coolent will get between the wire and the boot and short it out.
we're cool on the coolant. it's number 5 that's missin' anyways (up front drivers side if i have my order correct). changed the plug today, it was burnt to hell. took her for a spin, still runnin' like a 3 legged dog. i'm tellin' ya budfan, it's got me irritated bro.
don't feal bad last week going to dover del . my left torshine bar broke and limped to a friends body shop down there . this week the starter went .next week the truck is going !! trade in time! not shore what to get. good luck
