Firing Order Question

i just recently replaced my spark plug wires but noticed that the firing order was 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 1 not 1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 as the manual said ( this is a 5 liter 302 ) 1993 F-150 I tried using the correct firing order but truck would not start. currently an using the order that was on the truck and truck works fine. This firing order is out by 1 , is this a problem or should I bother fixing it?

Perhaps the distributor is clocked wrong making the number one position on the cap be out of place by one position. Turn the engine to top dead center (there are marks on the balancer), then pull the cap and see where the rotor is pointing. It should be pointing to either number 1 or 6 (6 is 180° away from 1). If it isn't, the distributor is out of phase, and if it is out of phase, the fuel injection is not occuring where Ford intended it to either.
