98 expedition help...

98 expedition help...

i just got this 98 expy and its makin some loud noise when i start it up, i took it back to the dealer and was told that it was the air suspension leveling it out, the noise only lasts for like 30 secs and turns off.. i hopped in my aunt's expy and hers doesnt make that noise. is this really normal or is the dealer tryina rip me off???

It is normal,to a point.The system will kick on when it needs to.If yours is doing it everytime you start it and it hasn't been sitting for a long period of time,then there is a leak in the system causing it to bleed down.

Check the mounting for the air compressor. They can rattle like heck if loose. Put the 2 side by side and compare them. Then go back the the dealer. Take both expys if need be. If the compressor is going bad I'm sure they are at least a $200.00 item.

My sons 85 cont will bleed down automatically after it has sat for only a few minutes. It is by design. It also inflates breifly when restarted to re-adjust for the added weight.
