Hi Guys, I posted this in the tires forum but figured I'd get a more accurate response in this group. You guys know the demands of the heavy trucks. I'm looking to put some new tires on my 95 F350. I'm not interested in off roading but I do need something that will give a smooth, long lasting ride. I spend the summer going to rodeos all over Colorado and need a good highway tire. I do have a dirt/mud driveway and need to run through the pasture on occasion but it's 99% road miles. Any suggestions/recommendations for a brand or style that has worked for you would be appreciated. I need something that is a lot of bang for the buck. Trying to go as inexpensive as possible since I'll run 25-35k miles this summer. Thanks!
Chapguy,
I just put new shoes on the pony a month ago and have been pleased with them. they are the Liberator A/T from Walmart(265/75/16) and where $87 a piece plus $7.5/each for stems and lifetime balance, rotation and road hazard. Like I said I have been pleased with them. They aren't that loud and seem to have pretty good grip. I just drove over 600 miles on them and don't have any complaints. Like you I drive mainly on the highway but want just a little extra tread for when I do go off road. I had radials on the truck prior and they seemed to be about the as noisey. Hope this helps!

I have a set of BFG Rugged Trails on my F-350. BFG makes a great tire, but I can't say how much thay are because I bought them used with 4k miles on them. I have since put 10k on them and they are wearing great! I think Walmart does carry them. They are quite on the highway, but have been excellent in the snow (CO native also). They are a name brand tire, so you'll pay a little more maybe, but I have learned my lesson with cheap tires. I have heard that Cooper makes a good tire as well, but I don't have any experience with them myself.

You may want to look into going with 19.5 wheels and tires as these are similiar to the tires are similiar to the ones that semi's run so you should be able to get many more miles out of them compared to the normal light truck tires. You will pay more out of the box but you will very likely save in the long run if you are going to be putting alot of highway miles on them. You can also get them with pretty aggressive tread patterns.
I have explore pro comps A/T's, hardly make any noise at 80 mph. I also tow a 40'er with the truck offroad and on and they work great. I've have them about 10K, they show vary little wear. I had cooper A/T before and they were very good, I would have gone with the coopers again but they don't sell 35's.
I got 65,000 out of the first set of Firestone steeltex 265/75 /R16 r4s(highway tread). Only 50,000
out of my second set.Firestone droped the r4s and I didn't want to be the first to try a redesign tire so through my search i decided to go with pirelli scorpions 265/75/r16 with a mileage rating of 65000 mi. olny light truck tire that gave a mileage rating.
111.00 ec. at the tire rack. 76.00 to ship 4 tires,no taxes and 22.00 to bal. I change out the tires myself.

I recently bought new shoes for my 97 F350 PSD dually. I got Goodyear G159's. I do quite a bit of towing. I love the tires, great ride and low noise. I was told at the time of purchase that these tires should easily get 70,000 miles of them with the correct rotation, balance and alignment service. These tires are worth looking into,
One this to look at for sure is proper inflation and rotating them, I don't know how many times I see guys in their trucks with absolutely not tread in the middle and almost full on the outside. I bought mine a Les Schwab, TXR's, currently have 40K on them and about half tread life or a little less. Next time I am going to try the SXT Mud terrain for LS, I think they will be a little quieter. But again, Ive seen more tires wear out due to over inflation than anything, keep and eye on it, speaking of which, I need to check tire pressure this morning.
I purchased Cooper Dominator's LT265/75R16, Load Rge E (10 ply rating). They have a mildly aggresive tread but they are quiet on the highway and in town driving. The tread has enough bite to get me up and down wet logging access roads during hunting season in Washington St. Overall I'm satisfied with their performance and the price, $595.00 for balancing, mounting, stems, tax, and siping, was right. I've driven about 10K miles and they are wearing fine. They are great towing/hauling tires as well.
Since I'm taking my little boy with me on the road and his Grandma didn't want anything to happen to him she called Saturday morning and told me that I had an hour and a half to find some tires and get an appointment to have them installed. That Day. I called the nearest Big O and asked 'em what they had. The guy suggested their Sun Valley AT's so I hopped on over there that afternoon. An hour later I was driving outta there with the new tires that Grandma paid for. Put nearly 300 miles on 'em today and have to say that I'm pretty darned impressed. They were smooth, quiet and had terrific traction driving through sleet and rain down the Eastern Slope of the hill from Winter Park, CO. I'll post another opinion after I've got a couple thousand miles on them.
Now if only Grandma would feel better knowing that her Grandson was riding in a truck with a new intake, exhaust and tuner....
