Help Dangit

I just bought an 82 f150 4x4 lwb 351w. The front fuel tank has been removed d/t it being rusted out long b4 I got it. When i go to put fuel in the rear tank I have to go at about 1 gallon per minute or else it splashes out and shuts pump down. It comes back up the filler vent so fast I can't get anywhere with it. yes 20 minute for 15-17 gallon fillup. This is driving me nuts. What can I do? Where do I start.

maybe you could put a vent hose in your tank???

not sure of the exact problem, but thats what i would try. Or else get a new front tank, that would be my first action....

lots of times the inner vent hose will kink if some one has tried to take off the fill hose. i would take the tanks hose off and inspect boththe fill hose and the inner vent hose.

Onion has it right. If the filler hose vent tube is even slightly kinked/collapsed you will get the condition you described.

might wanna try pulling the pump nozzle out a little. If i stick the nozzle in my truck all the way to the spring it will take a little then pop the pump handle. so i pull it out a little and i can fill fast as the pump will go.

I"ve tried all the nozzle positioning tricks. I reached under and felt my fill spout and it is steel and straight. Is there a separate vent tube?

so there's no fixing what's there, it's a matter of replacing it

there should be a little plastic tube inside the filler neck its about 1/2 inch diameter and it is held into the metal part of the filler neck and inside the tank. if its pinched or missing then you will hav to replace it.
