LAST EDITED ON 01-Jun-00 AT 05:26 PM (EST)[p]Okay guys, my 88 F150 is running hot again. I have given it a new pump, multiple new thermostats, new fan clutch. I have flushed the system and refilled with a 50/50 mix. Im getting ready to take it to a dealer! My only remaining guesses are the timing and mixture. What should the timing be on this engine? My chiltons says nothing can be done to adjust timing, so what do I do? Also is there a way to check the mixture, or just hope its right?
Also, what are the safe temp. ranges in degrees? The truck runs at regular temp in the canyons, just not around town or on the freeway.
Thanks very much, its getting frustrating!
If the engine runs at least halfway decent, I doubt its timing. Same for mixture.
Here's a few ideas:
Wrong pump. Depending on how belt runs, a wrong pump could be thrashing backwards (like CCW for a CW pump).
Near-plugged radiator tubes.
Thermostat in backwards.
Air trapped high up in block.
Don't know if it should have an anti-collapse spring inside lower radiator hose, but have seen cars that the hose didn't have it and they should have on those particular models.
EGR unplugged.
Near-clogged cat converter.
Bad temp sender or gauge, making user believe they have a problem when they don't.
