I have a ton of snap on tools but does anyone have any mac tools and how do they compare to snap ons I just got a plier set and they look good. just wondering.
When the Snap-On guy quit coming around the shop, I had to go with Mac. The Mac dealer was waaayyyy better to work with, had none of the "I can't bother with you if you won't spend $100/wk" attitude.
But the quality of the Macs was not as good as Snap-On...not as good a finish and sockets would round out heads easier, snap-ring pliers broke easily, screwdrivers didn't feel as good for grip, etc. But this is just my experience and opinion...you may find they really work for you!
I prefer Snap-on to MAC as far as "feel" goes. I like their ratchets better, as well as the their plastic-handled screwdrivers, and their wrenches. It's strictly an "in my hands" preference. MAC quality has never been an issue for me, MAC is top-shelf good, a brand I trust and am willing to pay a premium price for. The dealer, as mentioned, makes the biggest difference..... if any of the local Snap-on dealers would take the time to stop, I'd probably buy some Snap-on stuff. But, I have a MAC dealer who treats me well, selling a quality product, so I buy from him. I would not hesitate to recommend MAC tools to anyone.
Mac & Snapon are about the same quality wise. I have had the same Mac man for 20+ years, I don't think there are many snapon guys that can say that. True some of snapon's tools do feel better in your hands w the sides of wrenches come to mind as well as the knurling on ratchet grips. Greg
I have actually given up most of my ratchets that don't have the plastic handles, in either brand.... I got hooked on plastic a while ago, and all my ratchets except 2 or 3 have a comfort grip!
I think the biggest selling point for Mac is that the Snap-on guy is a butt head.
When I was wrenching I asked the Snap-on guy about a tool box he told me to get more tools first. Never bought anything from him after that. I have a lot of Mac stuff Never had any problems out of the ordinary. Plus the dealer is a real good guy.
Mac was alot better before Stanley bought them. When Stanley came in they screwed the long time machinists and foundary guys that had been there for years and alot of those guys quit and even sabatoged the tooling. I bought a 24 foot Mac tool truck that still had the Mac stickers on it and drove it for about a year. I thought people would approach me to buy tools(I wasnt selling), but for every person who would come to try to buy a tool there were 5 or 6 who wanted warranty for broken tools. Didnt make a very good impression on me. I do have a good bit of Mac tools but I dont think they are the equal of my Snap-On stuff. Still, I think Mac is still better than Craftsman. Having wrenched for 40 years I think Snap-On is still tops with Bonny-Utica nearly the same, then Mac and Matco about equal then SK and Husky about equal then Craftsman then Harbor Freight at the bottom( but their stuff still has alot of uses and I have a good bit of it) Imho, Don
My new question is due to a theft of my wrenches will I see a big diffrence between Mac Ks2 wrenches, and my flank drive plus wrenches. I can almost get twice as many of the macs compared to the snap ons for the price.
I have not used any of the new wrenches. I personally would talk the rep into letting you try a few for a week and see how you like them. that should tell you how much confidence HE has in them. Greg

Also check ebay, A guy I have bought from had the Snap~on standard sets of metric and standard a couple of weeks ago for the cost of one set!
Some Mac stuff I like (I realize that some of it is supposed to be a different spec) but since Stanley lost the lawsuit and had to correctly mark their stuff either assembled in Usa of foreign and domestic parts or Made in xyz, I have been leary.
A lot of the stuff I've looked at matches all their other brands, if it's the same, price shop. Almost all my tools are lifetime warranty, but MANY of them, the companies are out of business.

I use Mostly Mac tools everyday.. very few problems and my Mac dealer rectifies them quickly without question. To me I've used both and cannot justify the extra money for the Snap-On name, nor in my case do I enjoy the attitude of our Snap-On dealer.
