ok guys here go's. so i crawl under the 69 to adjust the clutch last weekend and see that the equalizer bar is not aligned like it should be ( engine mounted stud to frame mount location.) the engine appears to be sitting too far forward. i took the motor mounts out to see if i may have installed backwards but they were good to go. engine stands were also fine. the driveshaft yoke is even hanging out farther than it should. what the heck? any ideas or anybody else run into this or am i just an idiot moron? (im guessing the latter.) it runs and drives normal-just not sittin in there normal. later.

No mention of the tranny mount. If the tail end moves even a little, the motor can end up crooked in relation to everything else. The rubber isolater in the mount will allow quite a bit of play.

If you have not changed anything that affects the ride height (payload/no payload, changes in the springs) having the tail shaft out of line will let the yoke slip out to compensate. How much further is it out?
Next time you crawl under wear heavy boots, take a prybar and try to make the tailshaft move. It might be a good idea to loosen the motor mounts first.

...on my '66 Fairlane last month. My engine was too far forward by an inch. I took it all apart and tried to put the mounts on wrong to make sure that I had them right and could not. Only one way and I had them right. The second attempt as I was owering in the engine, I shook the hell out of the engine and took an old wooden shovel handle between the shock tower and engine and wiggled it as well. Now it sat back a half inch towards where it should. I left the motor mount bolts slightly left loose and strated the engine. It pretty much settled it self into place. My new Korean made mounts just needed some attitude adjustmet. Thats what I did.
