Have had my new truck for about a month. Outstanding tow vehicle. My '94 7.3L TD had a tach with a redline, but not the new one.
I have seen downshifts pop up to about 3500 in tow/haul mode. Can't remember exactly where the redline was on the '94, but I don't think I ever let the rpms reach 3500.
How come there is no redline on the 2005 6.0L PSD?
The engine is governed to 4000 RPM unloaded, I believe. They don't bother to put a redline because the computer won't let you do it. That's actually been true on a lot of cars for quite a while now. You can place that boot flat on the floor, and the computer won't let you go over 4000. (Don't do that though.) The only way you can run them beyond that limit is if you have a manual transmission and put it in too low of a gear. This is true on a 7.3L also, by the way. I don't know the redline on them.
I haven't seen an 05 Tach yet. I guess they took it off as a styling matter. My 04 has a yellow and a redline. I've never even had it near the yellow except for hill descents.
Did you doctor that image? How can you run 4,500rpm, in gear, yet nothing shows on the spedo. I figure you should have been running somewheres around 135mph. Do our speedos wrap around? Is that why no spedo needle? And at that speed you should've had both hands on the wheel, not one on the camera!

Just as stated earlier, the engine is normally governed to 4000 RPM. You can "redline" it (even though there isn't one) all day long and never do any damage. Mine runs 4600-4700 quite frequently (my 2-3 shift point is at 4650 presently) and I have seen no evidence of damage.
Overrevving these engines isn't too much of a threat.
